Well now!  I must apologise for not updating the "Chip Chat" sooner, but I am just a mere male!!

Anyway let’s go to Portugal…. I wish!!… Cabs and I (Cabs is my nickname for the misses) went to Portugal on the 30th August for 6 weeks – the weather was brilliant and we started to relax. Then I went and bought an Old Portuguese fishing boat that had been standing on its trailer for 2 years so I got it for a song. However there was a lot of work to do on it, as you can imagine, so I spent nearly 2 weeks painting and prettying her up. Then I put her in the water – forgot to put the bungs in and of course the boat took on a lot of water and nearly sunk!! In the meantime I left my phone in my pocket and jumped into the sea to put in the bungs –END OF PHONE!! Good start eh? We did have a laugh though and many great trips round the grottoes.

After the Portugal trip we flew to Germany. Oct 12th and 13th in Bochum with the All Stars and 27th in Düsseldorf. They were really good. I took Cabs to Bochum for 3 days I think it was a real eye opener for her as it is a different show to our usual with a lot of heavy bikers in the audience! Our friend Dawn flew in for this all the way from Chattanooga USA. She had travelled all that way just for the 2 shows which was great. Dawn is the one who set up and runs the website with Carol for me. It was also really nice to see Kitty and all the girls. (They took Carol off shopping while I was rehearsing)

After that there was a gig in Düsseldorf that I did on my own with just a guitar. Chris Andrews and The Lords were also on the bill. It was in a shopping centre and very hot! I came off sweating profusely and immediately took off my top in the dressing room. One of the Lords wives was there and had been drinking quite a lot and came and sat next to me and apparently announced, in German, that she was sorry she had missed the fire eater – ME!! I did not understand what she had said as my German is limited but everyone laughed so much they could not get their breath back, and to top it off the agent who booked me has now put on his website – “Chip Hawkes the singing fire eater” – I am never going to live that down!

At the moment I am waiting for the band to arrive and we are off to Brean Sands, Western Super Mare, so I will leave it at that but promise to clock in again soon.

Much love Chip

Well I must admit I was nervous all the way to the Embassy Theatre, Skegness on the 18th!  I really did not know what was going to happen.  However any fears that I had were unfounded. When we struck up the first chord – it was brill! The band vocals were really powerful and the new line up has a very strong presence.  I did “Old Shep” as a tribute to Elvis (He died 30 years ago this week) and Alan tried to his best to sabotage it by howling like a dog and being a total nuisance as usual!  All in good fun though and the crowd loved it!  We ended up playing for 2 hours with a twenty-minute break and I enjoyed every minute of it.  Pete was a bit jittery as he was waiting to become a granddad but amazingly he didn’t put a foot wrong.

Anyway – this morning his daughter presented him with a beautiful little girl… so congratulations granddad!!  At least I am not the only “gamps” in the band now!!

August 11th, 2007

Hi everyone,

Due to a lot of confused email I would like to put the record straight once and for all.

Mick Avory, Eric Haydock, Ted Tomlin and Graham Pollock decided to leave The Class of '64 and form a new band called The Legends of the 60s with a new singer.  I decided that I did not want to give up the good name of "The Class of 64" (Don't forget the band has been on the road for 4 years now) so I replaced them with Pete Spencer on drums (Smokie) Micky Clarke on bass (Rubettes) and Alan Lovell on lead guitar (Swinging Blue Jeans).  It is as simple as that!

Hope this clears up the confusion!
All my love .... CHIP

August 1st 2007

Hi folks,

This is my first attempt at Chip-Chat, so please forgive me if I ramble on a bit!

Well I might as well start with the new line up’s first gig. It was at “The Lincoln Showground. On the bill were The Rubettes, The Real Thing and Gerry and The Pacemakers. You can imagine I was a little bit nervous when we went on stage but I relaxed straight away - don’t forget we had no rehearsals for this gig so we were a bit rough round the edges. I have to admit however we got a great reaction and the vocals were very strong. I know as soon as we get tight, the band is potentially a force to be reckoned with! Anyway I was a lot happier on the way home!

We are planning to get together next week to rehearse for the 18th August at The Embassy Theatre, Skegness. I am really looking forward to that gig.

My friend Kitty from Belgium called me a while ago and said would I be interested in recording a duet with a young Swiss singer called Nathalie Weider. I said are you sure it is not Chesney that she wants!! Apparently she saw me play in Switzerland ten years ago with The Chip Hawkes Band. (She came with her mum, no not grandma!!) And she had such good memories of that night that she decided to track me down to sing with her!….No accounting for taste…!! I had a really nice time in Switzerland recording the track with her last week. I do not know the release date yet but I do know it is on “Zoom Records”- Germany and the title of the song was “Listen” (co-written by her).

Well that brings me up to date so I will sign off. Please come to gig soon and come and say hello.

Love Chip
